Artist's Comments

I didn't originally start this out to be a ghost scene, but as I was playing with the colors it sort of became that... It started as a vaguely Oriental-ish lady out for a walk in the fog. It seems that there's stories of mysterious "ladies in white" in every culture, so it just sort of took on that tone. Especially when I started playing with the transparency qualities of the figure with the gradient and got that spooky transparent quality shading to a more solid feel that made her appear to be floating. So I took that feel and ran with it. That, of course, inspired the half-seen trees and hills in the background, the vague foggy shapes...

Anyway... I certainly hope the kanji does, indeed, mean "ghost." If it doesn't and it means something obscene, please someone tell me...

Illustrator CS is my toy of choice lately.

The word means "spirit", more accurately speaking. No, it doesn't mean anything naughty.....although suppose one *could* make a play on words if forced to..... :giggle:

I like how the umbrella turned out. It has a very opaque feel to it, and this deviation looks like something from an old but elegant cosmetics ad.

*_* That is a gorgeous composition. No, really! It's so subtle and graceful... I love the softness, the smoothness of the lady's dress... of her entire *figure*, really! This picture looks, truly, like an actual oriental art print. I can't stop gawking at how beautimous it is! <3 *_* +fav of course.

Wooooow that's gorgeous!! I love it!! I looked it up and I'm not so sure that kanji is ghost. Do you know what word you used? I don't have a kanji dictionary, so I can't look it up. But the words I found meaning ghost were "obake" and "yuurei" and their kanji is different. Geez and if I look under spirit I get "rei" (supernatural being) and "boorei" (ghost). Neways, since you weren't sure if it was the correct kanji, I thought I'd look it up for you. If you want me to send any to you, I'd be happy to.

Thanks! :D

said it meant "spirit" which is close enough for me. I have a program on my computer that lets me input words and it gives me kanji equivilents and that's how I found it. I'm just too lazy to look up the word in my dictionaries which means I have to scan the word (this way I can do a screen cap of the kanji then do an auto-trace in Illustrator to get a nifty-looking version of it).

I chose this kanji because it did have "ghost" listed as one of its meanings along with "fairy" (although, the reason I asked that if it meant something obscene that someone tell me because, strangely enough, one of the meanings listed was also "semen," go fig :giggle:).

Thanks for the comment and the fav! :D

Thank you for the comment! I'll keep that in mind!

Thanks! :D

Heh heh heh... Exclamation marks are okay, just as long as you don't have five in a row. That is a sure sign of someone who wears their underwear on their head. According to Discworld logic, at least. :)
:iconpairaka:
Thank you! I worked hard on getting this one just right and I really like how it turned out.

Thanks for the fav! :D
